Monday Morning Maybeearly ratingWhy it’s a Monday Morning Maybe
With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Aimed squarely at people who like the lights on afterwards and anyone who appreciates a well-choreographed fight. The scares come from the creaks and shadows as much as the jumps. The fight choreography is a big part of the appeal.
- The mood
- Light and funny.
- The pace
- Wastes no time getting going, at 1 hr 43 min.
- What might put you off
- It's in Chinese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Made in 1975: an older pace and style.
- Skip it if you prefer quiet, talky stories.
Wang Yu plays Hsiao Chien, a con artist vagabond who uses his kung fu skills and parlor tricks to convince superstitious villagers that he can use his body as a vessel for angry gods. However, when the villagers are threatened by a hostile force, Chien must learn to use his skills to protect the innocent.
