Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With mixed reviews and soft box office, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: A natural pick for anyone who likes watching someone settle a score and people who love a good family story. A revenge story, so expect the pressure to build to a reckoning. Sits nicely alongside In the Heat of the Night. Anyone with siblings or parents will recognize something here.
The mood: Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace: Character-first and patient, at 1 hr 43 min.
What might put you off: Rated PG: peril. Worth a look first if you have very young kids.
Made in 1973: an older pace and style.
Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

In the early 1970s, a young woman passing through rural Tennessee unintentionally gets caught in a feud between two local neighboring clans, the Feathers and the Gutshalls.
