Sunday Safe Betearly rating

Why it’s a Sunday Safe Bet

It earned strong reviews (88% on Rotten Tomatoes), though it had almost no lasting buzz and soft box office. A safe bet when you want something reliable.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: A natural pick for anyone who loves a story about hope against the odds and people who'll be humming afterwards. The walls close in, and so does the tension. If you loved Dreamgirls or Sing Sing, start here. The music is woven into the story, not just laid on top.
The mood: Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace: Takes its time with its characters, at 1 hr 50 min.
What might put you off: It's in German, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
Skip it if you need something light and fast tonight.

Four female cons who have formed a band in prison get a chance to play at a police ball outside the walls. They take the chance to escape. Being on the run from the law they even make it to sell their music and become famous outlaws.
