Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Tailor-made for people who like their stories with a little danger and anyone who loves trying to stay one step ahead. Leaves you with ideas to chew on afterwards. A good follow-up to The Naked City.
The mood
Tense, dark and gritty.
The pace
Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 25 min. Done before bedtime.
What might put you off
  • It's in Japanese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if you like your stories firmly grounded in the real world.

An unknown future. A boy confesses to the murder of another in an all-boy juvenile detention facility. More an exercise in style than storytelling, the story follows two detectives trying to uncover the case. Homosexual tension and explosive violence drives the story which delivers some weird and fascinating visuals.
