Monday Morning Maybeearly ratingWhy it’s a Monday Morning Maybe
With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Tailor-made for anime fans and sports fans (and people who swear they aren't). It's anime, with all the big emotions and big action that comes with it. Liked Chariots of Fire? This is a good next one. You don't need to know the game to feel the big moments.
- The mood
- Feel-good.
- The pace
- Lively and easy to follow, at 1 hr 28 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
- What might put you off
- No age rating on record, so check it first for young kids.
- It's in Japanese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Made in 1979: an older pace and style.
- Skip it if you can't get past animation (your loss).
High school freshman Hiromi joins the tennis club because of her admiration for Ryuzaki. Ryuzaki is a senior, who's the best tennis player on the team and also nicknamed "Ochōfujin", ("Madame Butterfly"), because of her elegance on the tennis court. However, the new coach, Jin Munakata, wants the inexperienced Hiromi to play in a forthcoming tournament.
