Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Aimed squarely at lovers of period drama and anyone who likes knowing it really happened. The costumes and settings are a feast on their own. A good follow-up to Les Misérables or The Zone of Interest. Based on real events, so expect to go down a research rabbit hole afterwards.
The mood
Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace
Lets scenes breathe, at 1 hr 24 min. An easy one to fit in on a school night.
What might put you off
  • It's in German, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Made in 1931: an older pace and style.
  • Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

Elisabeth of Austria is a German movie with Lil Dagover as royalty Elisabeth who has many men to choose from.
