Sunday Safe Bet

Why it’s a Sunday Safe Bet

It earned strong reviews (89% on Rotten Tomatoes), though it had soft box office. A safe bet when you want something reliable.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Made for people who root for the clever crook and people who like their stories with a little danger. The fun is in the planning, the double-crosses and the moment it all goes sideways. Fans of The Asphalt Jungle or Dhoom 2 should feel right at home. Critics like it more than audiences, which usually means it takes its time or takes risks.
The mood
Tense, dark and gritty.
The pace
Takes its time with its characters, at 2 hr 24 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Hindi, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if you like your heroes clean-cut.

In 1980s India, a gang of con artists posing as government officials swindle wealthy businessmen and politicians through fake raids, but their biggest heist is threatened by a relentless police officer closing in on them.
