Versailles, 1788. To rescue his crumbling reputation, Louis XVI is advised to appoint an “official mistress”. Against her will, he chooses the brilliant young Countess Madeleine, a woman who would rather read Rousseau than share a king’s bed. When René, the love of her life and a simple cook, follows her to Versailles and unexpectedly becomes the King’s royal food taster, every extravagant feast becomes a battle for survival between love, power and appetite.
