Sunday Safe Betearly rating

Why it’s a Sunday Safe Bet

Critics loved it (95% on Rotten Tomatoes), though it had almost no lasting buzz and soft box office. A safe bet when you want something reliable.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Made for people who get choked up at a comeback and anyone in the mood for a love story. The sport matters, but the people playing it matter more. Sits nicely alongside Slap Shot.
The mood
Warm and romantic.
The pace
Character-first and patient, at 1 hr 4 min. An easy one to fit in on a school night.
What might put you off
Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

When he takes his girlfriend to a seedy abortion clinic in the back room of a combination hair salon / bordello, Guy Maddin meets the madam’s daughter and falls in love. But she won’t let any man touch her until her father’s murder has been avenged.
