Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Aimed squarely at anyone who loves watching the truth get chased down and history and war-film fans. It's about the digging, and what it costs to get the story. Fans of Glory or Schindler's List should feel right at home. It puts you in the middle of the fighting, and doesn't let you forget the cost.
The mood
Intense.
The pace
Gives its people room to develop, at 1 hr 14 min. An easy one to fit in on a school night.
What might put you off
  • It's in Spanish, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Made in 1949: an older pace and style.
  • Skip it if you need something light and fast tonight.

The creative and ambitious Carlos, a young Spanish film buff, manages to become a professional camera operator with time and effort, and is also blessed with the love of Ana, which he has longed for; but the outbreak of the Civil War in 1936 changes everything for both of them.
