Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Aimed squarely at anyone who's survived a family wedding and readers who like to compare the book and the screen version. Relationships are put under a microscope, for better or worse. Adapted from a book, so readers can compare notes.
The mood
Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace
Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 35 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Swedish, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Made in 1964: an older pace and style.
  • Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

A wealthy butcher, fond of liquor and women is about to marry a much younger woman. The woman's father has locked himself in the attic and refuses to come to the wedding.
