Why it’s a Weeknight Watch
With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- A natural pick for anyone who remembers how big everything felt at sixteen and sports fans (and people who swear they aren't). Small moments carry real weight here, the way they do when you're young. You don't need to know the game to feel the big moments.
- The mood
- Thoughtful and character-driven.
- The pace
- Lets scenes breathe, at 1 hr 22 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
- What might put you off
- Skip it if you need something light and fast tonight.
Donal is a 14-year old who develops a passion for greyhound racing. He works in a kennel, which is owned by Good Joe. Good Joe promises Donal ownership of Donal's favorite greyhound, The Mighty Celt, if the animal wins three races in a row. Meanwhile, Donal's mother, Kate, must adjust her life when O, a man from her past, returns. The political climate of Ireland serves as the backdrop of this story.
