Weeknight Watchearly ratingWhy it’s a Weeknight Watch
With little lasting buzz, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- One for anyone who loves a world with magic in it and people who love relationship stories. Its magic has rules, and the story plays by them. Liked The Princess Bride or The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? This is a good next one. Relationships are put under a microscope, for better or worse.
- The mood
- Light and funny, romantic.
- The pace
- Paced for all ages, at 1 hr 19 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
- What might put you off
- No age rating on record, so check it first for young kids.
- It's in Russian, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Made in 1965: an older pace and style.
- Probably not for a grown-ups-only night in.
A fairy tale about a conceited young man and a young woman with a tyrannical step-mother, who must overcome magical trials in order to be together.
