Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
If you count yourself among people who like their stories at full throttle and adventure lovers, this one's for you. Popcorn viewing in the best sense. Same wavelength as Gladiator or Spartacus.
The mood
Exciting.
The pace
Takes its time with its characters, at 1 hr 35 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Italian, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Made in 1964: an older pace and style.
  • Not for anyone who finds explosions tiring.

Attalus, a war prisoner by Rome, proves his valor in the arena, becomes a gladiator trainer, conquers the women's hearts and the men's envy, and saves Rome from a political plot to a usurper to occupy the throne.
