Weeknight Watchearly rating

Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
If you count yourself among armchair detectives and anyone drawn to the darker side of the street, this one's for you. It plays fair with the clues, so you can play along. If you loved Blue Velvet or Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, start here.
The mood
Light and funny, tense.
The pace
Lean, with little time wasted, at 1 hr 57 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in German, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if you like your heroes clean-cut.

Set in a sleepy Austrian mountain village, ex-detective Simon Brenner has grown weary of his job repossessing cars and embarks on an extended getaway to the countryside. But before long he becomes embroiled in the convoluted world of the locals of a supposedly quiet town.
