Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe
With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Right up the alley of fans of mob stories and fans of newsroom stories. A look inside a world of loyalty, money and betrayal. Shelve it next to The Sting or Dick Tracy. It's about the digging, and what it costs to get the story.
- The mood
- Funny with heart.
- The pace
- Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 15 min. An easy one to fit in on a school night.
- What might put you off
- Made in 1934: an older pace and style.
- Not the pick if you want something heavy or meaningful.
Managing Editor Brad Bradshaw refuses to run a story linking the disappearance of Frank Canfield with embezzlement of the bank. He considers Frank a straight shooter and he goes easy on the story. Every other paper goes with the story that Frank took the money and Brad is demoted, by the publisher, to the Heartthrob column - writing advice to the lovelorn. After feeling sorry for himself for two months, he takes the column seriously and makes it the talk of the town. But Brad still wants his old job back so he will have to find Canfield and the missing money.
