Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Aimed squarely at people who'll be humming afterwards and anyone who wants a laugh. The music is woven into the story, not just laid on top. A good follow-up to A Hard Day's Night or Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
The mood
Light and funny.
The pace
Light on its feet, at 1 hr 30 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
What might put you off
  • It's in German, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if you're after something serious tonight.

Richy Guitar is actually called Richard, but is only called like this by his parents. The young man finds it difficult to find work in Berlin, and when he finally does, he is bullied by his boss. When he meets drummer Igor and bassist Hans, a new rock band is immediately formed. While the trio dreams of a gig at the Avus racetrack, Richy's relationship breaks down...
