- Who'll love it
- A natural pick for anyone who likes a story with a soundtrack worth keeping and anyone who likes wide open spaces and slow-burning standoffs. The music is woven into the story, not just laid on top. A good follow-up to Brokeback Mountain or West Side Story. Critics like it more than audiences, which usually means it takes its time or takes risks.
- The mood
- Funny with heart, romantic.
- The pace
- Takes its time with its characters, at 1 hr 35 min.
- What might put you off
- Made in 1956: an older pace and style.
- Skip it if you're after something serious tonight.
Cowboys Beauregard Decker and Virgil Blessing attend a rodeo in Phoenix, where Decker falls in love with beautiful cafe singer Cherie. He wants to take Cherie back to his native Montana and marry her, but she dreams of traveling to Hollywood and becoming famous. When she resists his advances, Decker forces Cherie onto the bus back to Montana with him, but, when the bus makes an unscheduled stop due to bad weather, the tables are turned.
