Weeknight Watchearly ratingWhy it’s a Weeknight Watch
With almost no lasting buzz, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Right up the alley of people who love a good growing-up story and slasher fans. It gets the awkwardness and the high stakes of being young. A good follow-up to Ginger Snaps. Classic slasher set-up: count who's left standing.
- The mood
- Scary and gory.
- The pace
- Builds dread steadily, at 1 hr 42 min.
- What might put you off
- Rated R: expect violence.
- Not one for anyone who hates jump scares.
Brett is a high-school outcast who doesn't run with the in crowd, unlike Samantha, the cheerleader he has a desperate crush on. Then one day, he gets a parcel in the mail -- a totem with the power to grant his deepest, darkest desires. Brett wishes for Samantha to love him, and she does, although after a while her affection starts leaning toward obsession. Then murders start occurring in the school, which Brett gradually starts to connect to the totem.
