Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Right up the alley of armchair detectives and people who love a good growing-up story. The investigation drives everything, one lead at a time. Fans of In Cold Blood or Rope should feel right at home. Small moments carry real weight here, the way they do when you're young.
The mood
Dark and gritty.
The pace
Character-first and patient, at 1 hr 35 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Swedish, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if you like your heroes clean-cut.

14-year old Erik gets sent to live with his older brother, Henry, during the summer as his mother is dying in cancer. Henry starts dating Ewa, who is married to Berra. A few days after Ewa shows up battered and bruised from an altercation with Berra, he is found dead on a nearby parking lot.
