Sunday Safe Betearly rating

Why it’s a Sunday Safe Bet

Critics loved it (97% on Rotten Tomatoes), though it had almost no lasting buzz and soft box office. A safe bet when you want something reliable.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: Tailor-made for anyone who remembers how big everything felt at sixteen and people who love a good family story. It gets the awkwardness and the high stakes of being young. Anyone with siblings or parents will recognize something here.
The mood: Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace: Gives its people room to develop, at 1 hr 41 min.
What might put you off: It's in French, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

A widower and his daughter witness the retirement of a colleague of his and the closing of her department at her university.
