Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Aimed squarely at anyone who remembers how big everything felt at sixteen and anyone who likes a story with emotional weight. It gets the awkwardness and the high stakes of being young. Fans of Mean Girls should feel right at home.
The mood
Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace
Character-first and patient, at 1 hr 32 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in another language, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Made in 1977: an older pace and style.
  • Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

End of childhood, first love and misunderstandings that seem unsolvable. Comic story of sixteen years old boy who seems to be all against his dreams - and the families and friends, and the world from the supermarket where he works.
