Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With soft box office and little lasting buzz, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Tailor-made for people who like their stories with a little danger and people who enjoy a knot in their stomach. Plenty of moral grey areas to chew on. If you loved The Naked City, start here.
The mood
Tense, dark and gritty.
The pace
Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 2 hr 12 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Hindi, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Made in 1958: an older pace and style.
  • Skip it if you like your heroes clean-cut.

Bani Chowdhury and solicitor Ajoy Kumar are deeply in love with each other. But their world comes crashing down when Bani's cousin, Maya is found dead in the first class compartment.
