Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe
With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- If you count yourself among history and war-film fans and anyone interested in what war does to ordinary people, this one's for you. It puts you in the middle of the fighting, and doesn't let you forget the cost. Sits nicely alongside The Pianist or Fury.
- The mood
- Intense.
- The pace
- Gives its people room to develop, at 1 hr 36 min.
- What might put you off
- It's in another language, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Made in 1954: an older pace and style.
- Skip it if you need something light and fast tonight.
Celebrating the end of World War II and liberation of their city, a group of students is set on holding a cultural evening. They invite Ema, a reclusive piano teacher from the same building, to play for them. Ema declines, but starts reminscing back on her own life and the historical events that have seemingly overshadowed it.
