Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Best for anyone who likes a story with a soundtrack worth keeping and people who like their stories with a little heart-flutter. The music is woven into the story, not just laid on top. Sits nicely alongside A Star Is Born.
The mood
Light and funny, romantic.
The pace
Quick and easy-going, at 1 hr 34 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Spanish, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if romance makes you roll your eyes.

Like her mother before her, beautiful Sissy wants to be a dancer at the Tropicana, Havana's famous cabaret. But her father, Candido, forbids her to do so because of his ongoing grudge against Armando, his former rival and choreographer at the nightclub.
