Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Tailor-made for martial arts fans and readers who like to compare the book and the screen version. The fight choreography is a big part of the appeal. A good follow-up to Rurouni Kenshin: The Final or Kagemusha. Adapted from a book, so readers can compare notes.
The mood
Exciting.
The pace
Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 59 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Japanese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Not for anyone who finds explosions tiring.

"Tsubaki Sanjuro" is a remake of Sanjuro (1962) by Akira Kurosawa. Sanjuro returns with sharper, faster, subtler sword, talking and perception. He uses them to settle the trouble and uses them good!
