Weeknight Watchearly rating

Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With almost no lasting buzz and mixed reviews, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
If you count yourself among anyone who likes a story with a soundtrack worth keeping and people who need a good giggle, this one's for you. The music is woven into the story, not just laid on top. Sits nicely alongside Lemonade Mouth or A Mighty Wind.
The mood
Funny with heart.
The pace
Character-first and patient, at 1 hr 30 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
What might put you off
  • It's in another language, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Not the pick if you want something heavy or meaningful.

After a temperamental pop singer is caught in possession of drugs, she evades arrest by becoming a fledgling dangdut performer in a rural neighborhood.
