Monday Morning Maybeearly ratingWhy it’s a Monday Morning Maybe
With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Aimed squarely at people who love a good growing-up story and manga readers. It gets the awkwardness and the high stakes of being young. Liked A Silent Voice: The Movie or The Quintessential Quintuplets Movie? This is a good next one. Made in the anime tradition: bold, emotional and willing to go dark.
- The mood
- Funny with heart, romantic.
- The pace
- Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 53 min.
- What might put you off
- It's in Japanese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Not the pick if you want something heavy or meaningful.
Aoi Nishimori's parents moved to another city for work, but Aoi didn't want to transfer to a new high school. She stays behind and lives in an apartment by herself. Shūsei Kugayama moves in next to Aoi's apartment. Shūsei is a very popular student at their high school. Due to a mistake, Aoi makes the sprinkler go off in his room. Until Shūsei's room is fixed, he stays with Aoi.
