Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Made for people who love a good growing-up story and fans of a well-timed joke. It gets the awkwardness and the high stakes of being young. Fans of Ghost World or Eighth Grade should feel right at home.
The mood
Funny with heart.
The pace
Gives its people room to develop, at 1 hr 44 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in German, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

Charleen is 15, melodramatic, mega depressed, and Kurt Cobain’s biggest fan. Her best friend Isa is getting really boring, her dad is out of the picture, and her mom has hooked up with her biology teacher. Even though she has an apprenticeship preparing bodies for funerals, which is pretty cool, her musical idols are all dead. It’s about time Charleen was, too.
