Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe
With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Aimed squarely at lovers of period drama and fans of a well-timed joke. The costumes and settings are a feast on their own. Very British, in all the best ways.
- The mood
- Light and funny.
- The pace
- Quick and easy-going, at 1 hr 7 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
- What might put you off
- Made in 1932: an older pace and style.
- Not the pick if you want something heavy or meaningful.
Stephan Gregorovitch, the unwilling king of a bankrupt Ruritanian country, along with his hucksterish chancellor and musically-inclined bodyguard, travel incognito to London for some fun. An invitation to a party held by Duke Hugo seems just the ticket, but the presence of jewel thieves in the vicinity soon puts paid to any ideas of a relaxing evening!
