Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
One for readers who like to compare the book and the screen version and anyone who loves a will-they-won't-they. Adapted from a book, so readers can compare notes. The chemistry carries it.
The mood
Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace
Lets scenes breathe, at 1 hr 55 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in another language, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Made in 1956: an older pace and style.
  • Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

Juha lives together with younger woman Marja. Juha loves her, but Marja seems to belong to somewhere else. Things get complicated when casanova Shemeikka arrives from strange lands and takes Marja away with him.
