Why it’s a Weeknight Watch
With a box office flop, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Great for anyone with a best friend they'd call at 3am and people who start the Christmas movies early. The friendships are the beating heart of it. A good follow-up to Hunt for the Wilderpeople or The Station Agent. Made to be watched with the tree lit.
- The mood
- Funny with heart.
- The pace
- Character-first and patient, at 1 hr 57 min.
- What might put you off
- It's in another language, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Made in 1970: an older pace and style.
- Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.
Four friends from Calcutta who have very different personalities make a holiday excursion into the country, to a tiny village in the state of Bihar where they set themselves up in a bungalow. A series of minor events, all connected to their respective reactions to their new environment, reveals their characters more deeply.
