- Who'll love it
- Aimed squarely at people who love a true story told well and anyone who likes stories from the past brought to life. Best on a quiet night when you're in the mood to feel something. Liked Tell Me Who I Am or The Look of Silence? This is a good next one.
- The mood
- Harrowing, eye-opening.
- The pace
- Well paced for a documentary, at 1 hr 15 min. Done before bedtime.
- What might put you off
- It's in Italian, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Skip it if you need something light and fast tonight.
Raphael, Yervant Gianikian's father, survived the Armenian genocide in 1915 in Eastern Turkey. In April 1988, while living in Venice, he sat for his son's camera and read an excerpt from his memoirs, translated from Armenian into Italian.
