Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With soft box office and little lasting buzz, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: Made for music lovers and anyone with a complicated family (so, everyone). The music is woven into the story, not just laid on top. Liked Alfie or Call Me by Your Name? This is a good next one. Family ties get tested in ways that ring true.
The mood: Funny with heart, romantic.
The pace: Takes its time with its characters, at 1 hr 40 min.
What might put you off: Rated R: meant for adults.
Skip it if you're after something serious tonight.

A widowed father has to deal with two complex issues: while he is searching for "Miss Right," his son, who is in his 20s and gay, is searching for "Mr. Right."
