Weeknight Watchearly rating

Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With a box office flop, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
One for anyone who likes a story with a soundtrack worth keeping and anyone with a best friend they'd call at 3am. The music is woven into the story, not just laid on top. Same wavelength as Hamlet or Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The friendships are the beating heart of it.
The mood
Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace
Unhurried and epic, at 2 hr 46 min.
What might put you off
  • It's long: 2 hr 46 min.
  • It's in another language, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

A veteran Shakespearean actor steps off the stage and into the painful tragedy of old age, facing ungrateful family and his fleeting legacy. Based on a play of the same name written by playwright Kusumagraj (V. V. Shirwadkar).
