Sunday Safe Betearly rating

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Made for the curious and history buffs. If you loved 20 Days in Mariupol or They Shall Not Grow Old, start here. Critics rate it higher than audiences do, so it rewards patience more than it chases thrills.
The mood
Intense, eye-opening.
The pace
Moves along nicely, at 1 hr 45 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Danish, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Audiences were cooler on it than critics.

Danish soldiers are sent to Afghanistan in 2009 for 6 months, to help stabilize the country against the Taliban. They're stationed on Armadillo military base in Helman province. Unlike other war movies, this is the real deal – no actors.
