Weeknight Watchearly ratingWhy it’s a Weeknight Watch
With almost no lasting buzz and middling reviews (40% on Rotten Tomatoes), it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- One for fans of prison dramas and anyone who likes knowing it really happened. The walls close in, and so does the tension. Liked Bronson or The Shawshank Redemption? This is a good next one. Built to entertain rather than impress the critics, and audiences love it for that.
- The mood
- Warm and romantic.
- The pace
- Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 50 min.
- What might put you off
- It's in French, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.
A man, a woman. A prison director, his inmate. An impossible love, a true story.
