Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Who'll love it: Made for anyone who loves backroom deals and speeches and readers who like to compare the book and the screen version. Power and ambition drive every scene. If you loved All the King's Men or The Parallax View, start here. Adapted from a book, so readers can compare notes.
The mood: Thoughtful and character-driven.
The pace: Unhurried and epic, at 2 hr 34 min.
What might put you off: It's long: 2 hr 34 min.
It's in Japanese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
Made in 1975: an older pace and style.
Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

When bribe money from a rigged election funnels into a dam construction project, collusion, lust, greed and even murder are on the ballot.
