Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With soft box office and little lasting buzz, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: Best for fans of end-of-the-world stories and anyone who likes big what-if ideas. It builds a whole broken world and makes you live in it. Sits nicely alongside THX 1138 or Nineteen Eighty-Four.
The mood: Mind-bending.
The pace: Long and immersive, at 3 hr.
What might put you off: It's long: 3 hr.
Skip it if you like your stories firmly grounded in the real world.

A man who grew up in a primitive society educating himself by reading Shakespeare is allowed to join the futuristic society where his parents are from. However, he cannot adapt to their repressive ways.
