Sunday Safe Betearly rating

Why it’s a Sunday Safe Bet

It earned strong reviews (88% on Rotten Tomatoes), though it had almost no lasting buzz. A safe bet when you want something reliable.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Aimed squarely at people who like their stories with a little heart-flutter and people who like stories about real, flawed people. Best on a quiet night when you're in the mood to feel something. Liked The Wild One? This is a good next one. More of a critics' pick than a crowd-pleaser: worth it if you like something a little different.
The mood
Warm and romantic.
The pace
Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 46 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in French, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Audiences were cooler on it than critics.
  • Not the one if you want explosions or easy laughs.

A bored wife leaves her husband for an unemployed, petty criminal.
