Why it’s a Weeknight Watch

With almost no lasting buzz and mixed reviews, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it: Made for anime fans and fans of newsroom stories. Made in the anime tradition: bold, emotional and willing to go dark. It's about the digging, and what it costs to get the story.
The mood: Scary.
The pace: Tense from early on, at 1 hr 35 min.
What might put you off: Rated R: meant for adults.
It's in Japanese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
Not one for anyone who hates jump scares.

While stopped at a roadside phone booth for transmitting his work through the Internet to the university, Professor Hideki Satomi finds a scrap of newspaper with the picture of his five-year-old daughter Nana in the obituary section.
