Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Aimed squarely at people who'll be humming afterwards and people who like stories that don't look away. The music is woven into the story, not just laid on top. Liked The Odd Couple or My Dinner with Andre? This is a good next one. It deals with hard things honestly.
The mood
Funny with heart.
The pace
Character-first and patient, at 1 hr 36 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in French, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Not the pick if you want something heavy or meaningful.

Jacques and Martine, an ordinary bourgeois couple, invite to dinner a friend whom they have not seen the last ten years. Since then he has become a media star and everything has to go just right at dinner.
