Weeknight Watchearly ratingWhy it’s a Weeknight Watch
With almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, it's a mixed bag. Fine if it's on; don't plan your night around it.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Right up the alley of vampire fans and fans of a good haunting. Vampire lore, given its own spin. Shelve it next to Leviticus or Bram Stoker's Dracula. The scares come from the creaks and shadows as much as the jumps.
- The mood
- Scary, romantic.
- The pace
- Builds dread steadily, at 1 hr 34 min.
- What might put you off
- Rated R: meant for adults.
- Not one for anyone who hates jump scares.
It has been five years since Laura and Carmilla vanquished the apocalypse and Carmilla became a bonafide mortal human. They have settled in to a cozy apartment in downtown Toronto, Laura continues to hone her journalism skills while Carmilla adjusts to a non-vampire lifestyle. Their domestic bliss is suddenly ruptured when Carmilla begins to show signs of "re-vamping" – from a fondness for bloody treats to accidental biting – while Laura has started having bizarre, ghostly dreams. The couple must now enlist their old friends from Silas University to uncover the unknown supernatural threat and save humanity – including Carmilla's.
