Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Best for people who get choked up at a comeback and anyone who likes knowing it really happened. The sport matters, but the people playing it matter more. Same wavelength as O.J.: Made in America or Midnight Express. Based on real events, so expect to go down a research rabbit hole afterwards.
The mood
Dark and gritty, eye-opening.
The pace
Moves through the story clearly, at 1 hr 30 min. An easy one to fit in on a school night.
What might put you off
  • It's in German, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if you want made-up drama tonight.

It is a horror scenario that unfolds on September 5, 1972, in the Olympic Village in Munich. Eight Palestinian terrorists sneak into the Israeli team’s quarters, kill two Israelis, and take nine others hostage. The German security forces are completely unprepared for such a crisis situation. When, after tough negotiations, the terrorists and their hostages are to be flown out, the police prepare a rescue operation at the Fürstenfeldbruck military airport. But that is when disaster strikes.
