Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe
With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Made for anyone nostalgic for their awkward years and people who like stories about real, flawed people. Small moments carry real weight here, the way they do when you're young. Paris does a lot of the work, and it looks wonderful.
- The mood
- Thoughtful and character-driven.
- The pace
- Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 25 min. An easy one to fit in on a school night.
- What might put you off
- It's in French, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
- Skip it if you need something light and fast tonight.
It's 1992. Martin is 17 and he films his daily life with his Hi8 camera. He films anything and everything—his room, the world around him... But never his father, the thought doesn't occur to him. One day he meets Dominique. He's 23 and works as a student monitor at Martin's high school.
