Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Right up the alley of fans of a good haunting and fans of mob stories. The scares come from the creaks and shadows as much as the jumps. Shelve it next to The French Connection or Grindhouse. A look inside a world of loyalty, money and betrayal.
The mood
Scary.
The pace
Tense from early on, at 1 hr 55 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Japanese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Not for anyone who finds explosions tiring.

4 shorts from French Directors, working in the tradition of Grand Guignol, set in Tokyo. Stories about a man repeating a bloody day running from the Yakuza; a woman's violent encounter with her mirror image; a woman and her lasergun fighting of a shadowy demon; and a man being cursed by the famous Hachi-statue to become a werewolf pining for a prostitue.
