Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
One for history and war-film fans and anyone who likes stories from the past brought to life. It puts you in the middle of the fighting, and doesn't let you forget the cost. Same wavelength as Schindler's List or The Last of the Mohicans.
The mood
Intense.
The pace
Quiet, then quietly devastating, at 1 hr 50 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in another language, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Skip it if you need something light and fast tonight.

Taking place in 1991, Tigran, who teaches math at a village school to avoid the army, loses the girl he loves. Consumed by abject wretchedness, he decides to enlist as a volunteer in the Nagorno‑Karabakh war to give meaning to his hollow life.
