Why it’s a Monday Morning Maybe

With a box office flop and almost no lasting buzz, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.

Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below.

Is it for you?

Who'll love it
Great for anyone curious about anime and anyone who likes a world with its own rules. Works for the whole couch, from little ones up. Sits nicely alongside Back to the Outback.
The mood
Feel-good.
The pace
Lively and easy to follow, at 53 min. Short enough for a weeknight.
What might put you off
  • No age rating on record, so check it first for young kids.
  • It's in Japanese, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Probably not for a grown-ups-only night in.

Shimajiro and friends embark on a journey through the desert to help young Coco reunite with her mother after being separated in a fierce sandstorm.
