Is it for you?

Who'll love it
If you count yourself among anyone who likes life-or-death stakes every episode and anyone who loves trying to stay one step ahead, this one's for you. Life-and-death stakes, often at a run. Shelve it next to Twelve Monkeys or Shutter Island.
The mood
Tense and unsettling.
The pace
Character-first and patient, at 1 hr 49 min.
What might put you off
  • It's in Spanish, so expect subtitles (or a dub).
  • Not ideal if you just want to unwind.

A new patient mysteriously appears in a psychiatric ward. He claims to come from another planet to study humans and their behavior. The alien is gentle but criticizes humans for their harsh treatment of each other. The assigned psychiatrist is himself unhappy, and affected by the patient's insight. But he is ordered to treat the patient according to institutional procedure.
