With just 17% on Rotten Tomatoes, almost no lasting buzz and soft box office, this one could be a tough watch. Keep your phone handy.
Based on critics, audiences, awards, box office and buzz. Details below. Is it for you?
- Who'll love it
- Great for fantasy readers and anyone who grew up on fantasy maps. Its magic has rules, and the story plays by them. Same wavelength as Shrek or Frozen II. A proper quest, with a world big enough to get lost in.
- The mood
- Light and funny, feel-good.
- The pace
- Paced for all ages, at 1 hr 37 min.
- What might put you off
- Rated PG: scary moments. Worth a look first if you have very young kids.
- Not the pick if you want something heavy or meaningful.
Balloon kingdoms, dopey police dragons and happy wizards are exactly how Terry remembered his Grandmother's whacky fairy tales. Except they are real and it's definitely not as 'cheerful.'
